Decorum Rugs carries only hand-knotted, hand-made rugs from all rug making regions primarily in Iran, Turkey, Armenia, Caucasus, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, India or other rug making regions in the Near, Mid and Far Eastern parts of the world. Our rugs or textiles are nomadic,village made, city made, and some well produced ‘production’ pieces overseen by master weavers and designers.

We specialize in Vintage and Antique Rugs that are primarily before 1940’s.

We love to educate, share our knowledge, do repairs that include reweaving and re-knotting and are great Rug Enthusiasts and Collectors.

Armenians are the earliest known weavers of oriental rugs. It is also theorized that the word "carpet", which Europeans used to refer to oriental rugs, is derived from the Armenian word "kapert", meaning woven cloth. It is also theorized that the word "carpet", which Europeans used to refer to oriental rugs, is derived from the Armenian word "kapert", meaning woven cloth. This 'carpet has lush. deeply dyed healthy plump wool with this red and rich organic blues and gold that shimmer. The wool is healthy, lanolin rich and full pile, The design is of a golden vase with shimmering sky blues and fiery reds. There are 2 small animals appearing to bow to the center where the fiery blooms are stretching out from the vase.

Josan Sarouk, West Central Persia, 43.5" x 67.5", 1940 This Classic example of a Josan Sarouk is woven in the town of Josan located between the village of Malayer and Sarouk in  Central Persia. These densely woven, high knot count rugs are known for their prominent central medallion and exploded flower motif with outreaching filligree vines and  petals including colors of gold,saffron,red, and sandstone on an indigo field. of course the primary border includes the fringed undulating blooms.

Region of Origin: Ghiasabad is a small village in Farkazi province, NW Iran, with a population today of about 1200. It located about 40 km NW of Arak, the capital of the province, a city much larger in population (almost half a million inhabitants). Ghiasabad is situated about 10 km east of the town of Saruq and just north of the Farahan administrative district (on the road to/from Arak).

This region of Iran is also known for the insect reds  used as dyes in their yarns as well as the prominent medallion design in their rugs. D0264: Semi-antique Borchalu, Bozchelu,  45" x 65" Age: ca. 1930 Region of origin:  Eastern Hamadan region, of Mongol tribal descent. Borchalu is the only Hamadan village that produces curvilinear rugs. Condition/Description::  Very good with crisp vegetable dyes, and gorgeous  celedon blues and pistachio greens that are only found in old, antique rugs. The deep, almost  black, indigo in this rug is a difficult color to achieve, and only the master dyers know how to get this almost black indigo to stay and NOT fade as a fugitive dye. D0256X: Fine Persian Josan Malayer Dim: 48" x 82" Age: 1930's Region: Northwest Persia, Arak region Remarks: This beautiful Josan Malayer rug was woven in the 1930's in the Arak region in NW Persia.   It is in near perfect condition. When the weaver cut it off the loom, she left long fringes rather than cut them short. The rug is in gorgeous, near perfect condition displaying a virtual explosion of blossoms, tendrils and Persian birds. It is made with moss-like wool and incredibly crisp, clean dyes,   Check out the skillfully drawn floral and arabesque display with beautifully drawn  birds, flowers, tendrils and vases.
