Vintage Heriz, 89″x121″, D0393
Vintage Heriz with glorious colors and an allover pattern of tendrils and botanical designs instead of the centered medallion. Made in NW Persia near the Ural mountains where the sheep's wool is enriched with the copper in the cold mountain waters which makes for wool with great tensile strength and incredible dyes.

Condition: Very good with good pile overall and totally in tact sides and fringes. This rug has been professionally washed and ready for your floor.
Remarks: Unusual square size in a Heriz, made in the Ahar region close to the Karajah area in Northwest Persia. Ahar Herizes are noted for their large sprawling medallions that flow over the entire piece.

1930's Karajeh Area Rug

Karajeh is a small rural village located in Northwestern Persia in the Azerbaijan region in the Zagros mountainous area. These Turkic speaking tribes migrated from central Asia centuries ago.
They are placed in the broader category of Heriz rugs although they predate the Heriz.
They are noted for their distinctive triple medallion motifs with each medallion uniquely different.
The Karajeh women weave whimsical images around the Medallions in the most creative ways.
The triptych of framed medallions form a single vertical column. In this wonderful piece columns are repeated 7 times making a total of 21 medallions.
They are also known as Gharaja, Gharajeh, and Karaja.
