Tribal rugs are both flat weaves and pile rugs. They are made by nomadic tribes for their own use. They are made with organic dyes that are available from their surrounding and all of the wool is hand spun and hand dyed using their own sheep.

D0264: Semi-antique Borchalu, Bozchelu, 45" x 65" Age: ca. 1930 Region of origin: Eastern Hamadan region, of Mongol tribal descent. Borchalu is the only Hamadan village that produces curvilinear rugs. Condition/Description:: Very good with crisp vegetable dyes, and gorgeous celedon blues and pistachio greens that are only found in old, antique rugs. The deep, almost black, indigo in this rug is a difficult color to achieve, and only the master dyers know how to get this almost black indigo to stay and NOT fade as a fugitive dye. Beautiful large complete nomadic pile bag with incredible colors and plush pile.
This bag is in almost pristine condition --- oustanding pile, design, colors, and weave. All wool fabric, natural dyes, goat hair binding. The closure loops are original.
The front of the bag is pile (knotted), while the back of the bag is a flat weave (kilim) with multi-colored banded stripes.

Remarks: This is a village rug from Northwest Persia woven in a Kurdish village probably by an older village woman with the great skill and experience to produce such a design with shimmering blues abrash..The Botef is generally considered a sign of well being and health. The field is encircled by a border of chickens or Stylized dragons to protect the heart of the rug.

D0216: This nomadic, tribal piece is called a Balitsch or a pillow bag and was used by a nomadic Baluch tribe. This bag is intact with both it front and kilim back.
The's nomadic pieces are always made with hand-spun wool and hand-dyed wool from natural elements or insect dyes of their region which tend to be of darker colors.
Please note the concentric, repeating medallions, radiating from the center, which the weaver has woven in as a protective symbol used by tribes to ward off the Evil Eye. The electric blue in this rug is stunning.
Perfect as a wall hanging, Pillow cover, couch throw or on the floor, table, or chair.

Condition: Excellent for a piece of this age. It has been professionally washed.
