Antique Bakhtiari from the Mahal valley in West Persia
Dim: 56″x 89″
Age: 1890-1910
Condition: professionally cleaned with complete ends and sides (selvage).
Materials: Wool on cotton foundation. All hand spun wool.
Natural dyes, hand knotted.
The pile has a carving effect from the mordant used by the master dyer to set or fix the dye during the wooldyeing procesd. This effect is seen only in rugs over 80 years old. This often happens when iron is used as the mordant on primatily greens, yellows.
Remarks: This is antique piece with a bold design and great saturated dyes.
