Description: 1935 Enjilas Village rug from the Hamadan Region
This rug was woven in the village of Enjilas which is known for the finest woven rugs in the Hamadan region. It is is a village just south of Hamadan city and west of Gombad. It is grouped with other Hamadan region rugs because they all have a similar knot weaving structure of a single weft between each row of knots, Therefore they are called single-wefted rugs.
The Enjelas, Enjilas are descendents of the Ingilois who were Shia refugees who fled Chechnya when the Russians occupied the Persian Caucasus in 1830.
The Enjilas rug is easily identified by its fine weave and design. They typically use very good shiny wool, deep reds, indigo blues, some greens, yellows and sometimes an ivory border. The design,is an overall herati/ fish pattern in the field, a turtle or samovar border, sometimes a medallion, and a smaller version of the herati design in the corners/ spandrels.
This is a wonderful one of a kind piece that can be used on the floor for many decades to come.
