D0123: 1910 – 1930 Ersari Afghan Turkmen Ayna Gul Design

From the  Northeastern  Ersari Turkmen Afghanistan  tribe, this wonderful tribal main carpet with its wonderful reds and Ayna Guls and camel colors and 8 pointed stars, encircled in black, repeated around the rug in the border has wonderful goat hair foundation extending out to form the fringes.

Antique  Afghanistan Ersari with Ayna Gul Design, D0123

Condition: Very good condition

Remarks: From a semi-nomadic Persian Turkmen tribe in Northeastern Afghan, these main carpets were woven from wool and goat hair of the tribe’s sheep and goats a d used as coverings in their lodgings or tents. The goat hair is readily seen in the rugs foundation as its fringe on both ends. Found at an estate sale in Michigan.

The colors of deep, rosy reds and camel  are  used and repeated in the guls that are evenly distributed acoss the rug.
